Tips to Stay Focused on Success Even With Life Setbacks
Most of us have met failure at some point in life: in business, examinations, relationships or achieving goals. Joshua J. Marine, the famous philosopher once said, "Challenges are what makes life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful." View setbacks in life as challenges to overcome in order to achieve success.
Being confident and taking positive steps to overcome setbacks is the way forward to success. In this article we look at examples of lives of great people we admire and it gives us inspiration to get up and take action, no matter how many times we stumble and fall.
Here are five tips that experts in confidence coaching give on what we can do in times of adversity to stay on the path to success:
1. Keep your vision and purpose constantly before you, and setbacks will only seem like tiny bumps on the way to success. The "trick" is to always have well defined and written down personal vision and goals to hand and revisit them regularly.
2. It is best to avoid people who try to discourage you and spread negativity; it helps to associate with optimistic and positive thinking people who encourage you and will give you the confidence to handle adversity with courage.
3. While planning for success in your career or life, think of the possible obstructions that could come your way and hinder your actions. This could help you be prepared and think through alternative plans to work your way around the obstacles.
4. Analyzing a temporary failure brings out the things that could have been missed out in the previous plan. Then you can go for another try with a new and improved plan.
5. Learning the worst thing that happened and the best thing you can make happen from the setback would make you stronger and better than your earlier self.
Confidence coaching experts say that failure doesn't mean you should quit or that you are not good enough; it simply means you haven't found the right method or opportunity yet. Setbacks, adversity and being stuck in situations are steps on the ladder to success.
Abraham Lincoln's mother died when he was nine and his general store in Illinois failed. Ann Rutledge, the girl he loved, died. He failed in his first attempt to enter the Illinois state legislature. In two different election years, he failed to reach the senate and did not get enough party votes for nomination for the post of Vice-President. Finally, he was elected President of the United States in 1860 and in 1864.
Edison made some 8,000 attempts before he invented the light bulb. Later he is said to have remarked "At least we know 8,000 ways how not to make a light bulb."
These are great examples of the attitude a person on the road to success can practice and learn.
Recently tennis star Andy Murray lost to Mardy Fish in the quarter finals of the Cincinnati Masters. He was suffering from a severe knee problem, and struggled through the match as the temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius. The thought of giving up crossed his mind many times, but he fought on despite the adverse and unbearable circumstances. He did not lose hope; instead he remained focused and confident for the US open and become an inspiration for others.
Failure itself carries within it the seeds of success but only if we have the confidence to stand up and resume the race. We learn more from failures than from successes. The only time we actually fail is when we accept failure!
